I hope you Dance- The Chance to Dance Foundation

As some may know I sponsor dance programs at the NAC  and I feel very fortunate to be in the position to do so.  I thought that maybe there was an organization that helped children and families  that were interested in dance but did not have the means to pursue their young  dreams. I know the smallest of giftscan change a child’s life.

I know there is very little help financially for small arts organization in Ottawa and how hard it is to obtain any grants or funding so I went looking.

I came across this:

Well I picked up the phone and called . I spoke in some detail to Janice Crowe about the trials and tribulations of fundraising for small organizations especially in the arts.

To the extent that funds are available, The Chance to Dance Foundation uses money it receives for:

  • Applications for financial support from people who can’t afford dance lessons for their children, otherwise, and who wish to enroll them in a program at a certified dance studio of their choice
  • Community dance programs provided free of charge at community centers or wherever we can find space close to neighborhoods where children may have difficulty accessing dance programs due to lack of funds or poor dance program availability
  • Scholarships to provide financial support for older children who wish to pursue competitive or pre-professional programs
  • Financial support in pursuit of certification and teaching opportunities for older children who wish to teach dancing

So after watching this video, set to one of my favorite songs, and speaking with Janice, I gave with no hesitation and I hope to do more.

To the children and young adults who are trying to follow their dreams and continue to work against the odds  – Bravo !

Tis the Season….

Another year is almost behind us and  this year we have donated to a few new organizations. This is one of them.

I usually try to find a few that are not on the Radar screen of many people and this year as I was surfing the net I got a note from a very dear client who has just joined the board of Dress for Success. I could write something but it is best said from their web site. Whether it is money or clothing or volunteering this is a wonderful cause and provides a future for so many women and families .

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Since opening our doors in January 2011, Dress for Success Ottawa has provided support to 1000 women. What these women have in common is that they want to work and are ready to make positive change for themselves and their families. But, through challenging circumstances, they may have forgotten, or may never have known, that they are important, valuable members of our community who have a lot to offer potential employers. Dress for Success suits women for employment, from the inside out.

Thank you Ellen for that timely email .
